Christmas time is here.....

12/21/2017

“Christmas time is here…” like every year there is still so much to do and time is running out. Are we ready for it?  And when it finally arrives? Then it will be time to celebrate; time to ponder. Ponder about what happened in 2017 and wonder what the next one will hold: a stable economy, more division, the threat of war looming on the horizon, another election year and what else?
Christmas is supposed to be about joy and peace, both of which we can use quite a bit, but can it really provide a deeper meaning for our lives? Its story seems to belong to a different age, which passed so long ago that it seems no more than fairy tale or an ancient legend. Is it really true that God become a human being and walked on this earth? I
If not, then it is little more than a sentimental tale to help us feel good and cozy during the cold of these long, dark nights. But if it is true, then it imbues my life with meaning, and it forces me to take a fresh look at my fellow creatures who share my likes and dislikes, delights and foibles. If God became one of us how can I then think lowly of my neighbor and fear the stranger? That would be truly a game changer and not the same procedure as last year and every year before that. Are we a ready for that? Then we can pause and look to truly find peace in our hearts and our lives.
